KEOKUK, IA
Keokuk has agreed to sell a home at 2018 Missouri Street to God’s Way Christian Church for $1.
The property was donated to the city by a bank in the hopes it would be used to benefit low-to-moderate income individuals.
The city contacted Habitat for Humanity before reaching out to God’s Way Christian Church, which plans to use the home as a single family homeless shelter.
WEST BURLINGTON, IA
West Burlington Mayor Hans Trousil has named Lt. Frank Newberry as the city’s new police chief.
Newberry will replace current chief Alex Oblein, who is stepping down in late June to take a similar position in Oklahoma.
Newberry has been with the West Burlington Police Department for roughly 20 years. He served as patrol officer and sergeant before attaining the rank of lieutenant.
KEOKUK, IA
Keokuk has finalized the rezoning of a group of metal buildings at 2600 South 7th Street for light industrial use. A neighboring property is already zoned for light industrial use.
The rezoning is a condition of the property being sold for potential development.
Keokuk previously rezoned a church along Main Street to allow St. Louis Gear Company to expand its operations there.
FORT MADISON, IA
The Fort Madison City Council has signed off on raises for non-union employees for the upcoming fiscal year.
They will receive raises of 1.25% on July 1, 2012 and January 1, 2013. Hazmat Certification Pay will also jump from $42 to $60/month.
Fort Madison has already wrapped up negotiations with the five unions representing city employees.
