Details Set for Macomb Women's Statue

Rich Egger

Aldermen will be asked during their September 17 meeting to approve a plan for placing a new statue in the southwest part of Chandler Park.

“This memorial will celebrate women,” said Tina Belz of the Macomb Women's Club. “It will be a source of ongoing understanding of the value of women's contributions to our community.”

The agreement between the club and the city also establishes the dimensions of the statue and its surrounding plaza.

The Women's Club is continuing to raise money for the bronze statue, which will be called “Facing the Storm” to represent the struggle women have overcome.

The statue will be created by Peoria-based artist Jaci Willis. It will take about one year to make it once she receives the go-ahead from the club.

The women whose names will appear on the statue are Josie Westfall, Rose Jolly, Dr Elizabeth Miner, Dr Ruth Tunnicliff, Rebecca Everly, Sadie Moon, and Lida Crabb.
