Fatal Fire in Montrose

Three people are dead and another person sustained serious injuries in a trailer fire north of Montrose Monday afternoon.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said Montrose Fire and Rescue responded to 2777 252nd Avenue at 1:09 p.m. to find a trailer fully engulfed.

Jacob Russell, 33, of Keokuk made it out of the trailer. He suffered "severe burns and lacerations" that required him to be airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Firefighters said they found three bodies in the trailer. Their identities have not been released pending notification of family members and the completion of autopsies.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office is involved in the investigation.
