FMPD Arrests Two Teens

The Fort Madison Police Department arrested two teenagers following a "disturbance" on a school bus at Fort Madison Middle School.

Officers responded to the school at about 3:20 p.m. on Friday, January 30, to find two students being restrained by school district employees.

Jaylen Keith Kutcher, 14, and Daymeon Jayshawn Dometraile Virgil, 14, both of Fort Madison were arrested at the scene on multiple charges and taken to the Southeast Iowa Juvenile Detention Center.

Police Chief Bruce Niggemeyer said officers determined the two middle school students had a "verbal altercation with the bus driver.  After the driver exited the bus, he was punched and knocked to the ground."

Several school employees tried to stop the assault, but were attacked.  Two staff members were struck "repeatedly in the head and face area by the same two students."

Niggemeyer said three school employees sought medical treatment for minor injuries sustained in the altercation.
