Galesburg VA Clinic Named After Lane Evans

T.J. Carson

Galesburg’s VA clinic will officially be named after the late Congressman Lane Evans.

President Barack Obama signed legislation Wednesday to name the facility the Lane A. Evans VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic.

The legislation received unanimous approval in the Senate and the House this month. The bill was introduced in the Senate by Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) and in the House by Cheri Bustos (D-IL).

Evans passed away in early November at the age of 63 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Evans enlisted in the Marines shortly after graduating from high school.  He served in the Vietnam War.

He was first elected to Congress in 1982 and retired in 2007.

Evans served as the ranking member on the House Veterans Affairs Committee for 10 years.
