Henning Settlement Details Released

Ralph Henning (left) served as athletic director of the Galesburg School District for 10 years.

Tri States Public Radio filed a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain details of the exit agreementbetween the Galesburg School District and former athletic director Ralph Henning.  The agreement called for two payments to be made to Henning by no later than 30 days after June 30, which is the date his resignation takes effect.

The first payment will be for $10,064, the second for $5,000.

The document said the payments are for “damages paid in settlement of contested claims.” It did not explain what is meant by that.

The agreement also addresses potential future employment in the district, in which Henning “agrees that he shall not submit an application for employment to the Board or any entity affiliate with the District.” It further explained that “in the event such an application shall be made by Henning, the Board shall be entitled to rely on this Agreement as a legitimate, non-discriminatory and non-retaliatory reason not to hire Henning.”

Henning was reclassified on March 9, and that action was confirmed by the board a second time on April 10.

The exit agreement was approved and signed on April 27.
