Plans for a large-scale hog farm in southeast McDonough County are still up in the air.

Shamrock Acres LLC applied for a permit from the Illinois Department of Agriculture nearly 10 months ago.

Last fall's deadline for the department to decide on the permit came and went.  The department decided it needed more information from the owner,  Larry O'Hern

In an e-mail to Tri-States Public Radio, department spokesman Jeff Squibb said O'Hern has not responded with the information the department wants.  Squibb said the department's  last correspondence from O'Hern was November 7th.

O'Hern did not respond to requests by Tri-States Public Radio for an interview.

The projects has had its ups and downs.  O'Hern is the property owner for the proposed site. He took over ownership of the project in July just before a public hearing on the farm. At that time, Professional Swine Management withdrew from the project.

An Industry woman filed a state Freedom of Information Act request for the design drawings seven months ago. The Ag Department denied her request.  She sued the department and, in November, won the right to look at the documents.
