Knoxville High School Fully Ready

T.J. Carson
The construction-free version of the new Knoxville High School will debut for students on August 19th, the first day of the school year.

A project that began as an idea 14 years ago came to its conclusion Saturday in a high school auditorium.

The Knoxville School District held a dedication ceremony for its new high school building, a year after it opened. Around 100 people attended.

The district waited a year to hold the ceremony because the building still required some work, including completion of the auditorium and  of flooring in the commons area.

Superintendent Steve Wilder said the ceremony marked the transition of the building from a construction project to a school for the community.

“It’s a tight-knit community. And the school district plays a big role in the community. So it’s a place where people gather, they come to ball games, students come to school, there are a lot of memories that are made here,” Wilder said.

Other speakers at the ceremony included Board of Education President Patrick Callahan and High School Principal Chad Banks.

Callahan said the building provides Knoxville students an opportunity to learn in a 21st Century environment.

“We are able to offer our students collaboration, creativity, communication, along with critical thinking and problem solving through an outcomes based educational environment that we, as a community, have long sought and envisioned for this and generations to come,” Callahan said.

Some of the features cited in that effort include rooms dedicated for collaboration work between students and teachers away from the classroom, wireless internet access throughout the school, and state of the art science labs.
