The Macomb Board of Education unanimously agreed the nickname “The Bombers” should be use by all schools in the district.
“This is now Bomber country throughout the city of Macomb,” said Superintendent Patrick Twomey. “We believe that this will just help the school district and the community come even closer together as one.”
Twomey said the results of a survey the district conducted demonstrate clear support for switching to a districtwide nickname. 80% of respondents supported unifying the district behind “The Bombers” nickname.
“We received over 370 of those surveys so we were very pleased with the community’s participation,” Twomey said.
“The Bombers” was already in use at the high school. Twomey said a couple schools have different nicknames. Their uniforms will be replaced within the next couple years.
