Macomb police arrested three people for operating what Lieutenant Lindsey May called "the Amazon of drugs" in Macomb.  Police said one of the suspects was taken into custody at his class at Western Illinois University.

All three were arrested Monday:

  • Zachary Barnett, 18, of Good Hope -- faces seven charges of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance and seven charges of possession of a controlled substance.
  • William Hironimus Wendt, 19, of Sciota -- faces six counts of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance and seven charges of possession of a controlled substance; also charged with the manufacture or delivery of marijuana and possession of marijuana.
  • Jacob Nelson, 22, of Macomb -- faces two charges of possession of a controlled substance.

Lieutenant May said Barnett bought drugs such as LSD, mushrooms, ecstasy, Xanax, and steroids online and then had them mailed to Macomb so they could be sold. He said the Postal Service intercepted one such package and more packages are expected.
May called this a significant drug dealing operation and said more arrests are possible.
