Macomb Soccer Coach Resigns

Jeff Moore was up for reinstatement as head coach of the boys’ soccer team at Macomb High School. But instead he recently submitted his letter of resignation from the position.

Moore was suspended without pay last fall amid allegations of hazing.  The Board of Education required him to complete a prescribed education course about hazing before he could be reinstated.

“He did complete all the training that he needed to do,” said Superintendent Patrick Twomey.

“However, a couple weeks ago he turned in a formal letter of resignation and has decided not to coach next year.”

Moore enjoyed community support at the time of the controversy.  An online petition drive called for his reinstatement and half-a-dozen parents spoke on his behalf during the September meeting of the school board.  The parents said Moore would never allow hazing on his team.

Dr. Twomey said the job will be posted with hopes of filling the position in the next few months. Boys’ soccer is a fall sport.

Twomey said Moore will remain with the district as a French teacher.
