Old Settlers Association Dedicates New Shelter House

The Old Settlers Park in Fort Madison will be dedicating its new park shelter this Friday as part of a concert.

The city recently tore down its antiquated park shelter of almost 70 years in hopes of building anew.

This led one of the founding members of the Old Settlers Association to donate all materials and costs needed to build an enclosed shelter. The new shelter will be in memory of her late husband and son who were actively involved in the community.

Sheryl Decker with the Settler's Association says it's a welcomed and beautiful gift.

"It's been a very enlightening experience, because Fort Madison is a very caring and giving town when it's something they respect and that they would like to help a good cause."

The city can rent out the shelter to residents for events, and includes access to a kitchenette, family bathroom, and storage space.
