Saline to Run for 74th District Seat

T.J. Carson
Knox County Republican Party Chairman Wayne Saline announces his candidacy for the Illinois House in front of the Bickerdyke Statue at the Knox County Courthouse.

The head of Knox County's Republican Party is seeking a job in the Illinois House.  Wayne Saline will run for the seat now held by Don Moffitt (R-Gilson), who is retiring.

Saline served as a member of the Knox County Board from 2000 to 2011. He then accepted the position of Treasurer for the Knox County Republican Party, and eventually became the organization's Chairman.

As a Knox County Board member, Saline led the Finance Committee.

Saline said his top priority as a legislator in Springfield would be job creation. He wants to change regulations that he said restrict businesses.

“I need the unions to be able to work with the legislators that want to change those policies so it’s beneficial for both sides. I don’t think I need to tell the union people what to do, and I don’t think they should tell the people that want to be Right to Work people what to do,” Saline said.

Saline also wants to work on removing unfunded mandates that the state imposes on local governments. Saline said he would take a bipartisan approach to balancing the state budget and fixing its finances.

“I would like to sit down with the Democrats and have an open and honest discussion about where they see the things in the way they’ve been doing it, and explain the way we see it, and hopefully we can have some sort of agreement where we come together. Compromise is always key to making policy, good policy,” Saline said.
