SCC Trustee Passes Away

Southeastern Community College
SCC says Trustee Brian Roth passed away Wednesday morning following a lengthy illness.

A longtime member of the Southeastern Community College Board of Trustees passed away Wednesday following a lengthy illness. Brian Roth first joined the board in 1999, representing District 1, which encompassed Henry County and the surrounding area.
SCC President Michael Ash said Roth will be missed by everyone who knew him.

"Brian valued everyone: our students, our staff, our communities," said Ash. "He took seriously his duty to carry out SCC's mission to serve everyone across the region and we are all better off because of that."

Roth served as President of the Board of Trustees three times during his 16 years in office. In fact, Ash said he had a special connection with Roth because Roth was leading the board when Ash came to SCC.

"I had a tremendous fondness for him and an appreciation for him," said Ash. "For him to succumb at such a young age, relatively speaking, was just a shock.”

Roth owned Eldon Roth Insurance Agency in Mt. Pleasant. Ash said Roth's experience allowed him to see the big picture and think about the long term.

Ash said Roth and his family were celebrating his victory in his bid for a fifth term in office just hours before he passed away. He said the college will work with Roth's family on a way to recognize him for his years of service.

“Beyond his service to the college, he was an intelligent, witty, and loyal friend. He will be greatly missed," said Ash.
