Siemens Recalling Workers

A southeast Iowa business is bringing back some of its workforce.

Siemens Energy has recalled 13 workers to its plant in Fort Madison.

The company, through a news release, says another 73 are on track to return to work in the very near future.

Siemens says the recalls are necessary as international orders increase.

For example, the wind turbine blades needed for a new project in Brazil will be built at the Fort Madison plant.

The company says it had the confidence to start the recall process after Congress agreed to extend the wind energy production tax credit earlier this year.

The lack of action on that tax credit and a reduction in orders led Siemens to lay off more than 400-employee last fall.
