Suspect Arrested in Galesburg Murder

Members of the U.S. Marshal's Violent Fugitives Task Force arrested the man wanted for a murder in Galesburg.

Christopher Croom, 29, of Chicago was taken into custody Monday morning in the northwest suburb of Lake in the Hills.  His bond is $1,000,000.

Galesburg police said Croom stabbed Melvin Buckner, 49, in the front yard of a home in the 500 block of West Brook Street on August 13.

Buckner died four days later at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Croom is charged with First Degree Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.
