WIU Still Paying AD After Resignation

Western Illinois University

Documents from Western Illinois University show Tim Van Alstine, who last week resigned as Director of Athletics, will continue to be paid for the remainder of his contract, which runs through June 30, 2014.

An employee status document shows his monthly pay is $10,966, which adds up to an annual salary of $131,592.

As per a resignation agreement dated May 21, 2013, Van Alstine will receive his full salary and other compensation as agreed upon in a five-year contract signed June 24, 2009. The resignation agreement states the salary, benefits, and other compensation won’t be reduced for any reason prior to June 30, 2014.  That includes accrued vacation time.

In addition, WIU confirms in the document that “…this resignation agreement is not based on any violation of any of its policies or procedures or of any state or federal laws or regulations.” It goes on to say that the university will provide a letter of reference to confirm that and to confirm the resignation was voluntary.

The resignation letter is signed by Van Alstine and Gary Biller, Vice President for Student Services at WIU.
