A judge found probable cause to charge a Galesburg man with attempted murder following a shooting last month.

Tomas Rubio, 21, appeared in Knox County court on Monday for a preliminary hearing.

Michael Ingles, a detective with the Galesburg Police Department, testified Rubio and the victim both worked at McDonald’s on Henderson Street.

The victim was working a day shift on March 21 when Rubio arrived a couple hours early for his shift.

Rubio reportedly parked next to the victim at McDonald’s and later began following the victim’s car in a white truck through city streets.

Ingles testified two shots were fired and one grazed the victim’s left shoulder.

The victim’s car turned sharply and ended up on the terrace at Fremont and Kellogg streets, according to police.

Around an hour later, Rubio was involved in a rollover accident in Henry County in the truck.

He later turned himself into police.

An arraignment is scheduled for May 14.

Rubio remains in custody at the Knox County jail.
