The Western Illinois University Community Music School will soon start its fall semester of group classes and private lessons.
The classes offered during the fall 2022 semester include:
Music & Me; Parent/Child Music Enrichment (ages 2-5)Group Piano for Adults (ages 18+)CMS String Ensemble (ages 6-18)Individual private lesson packages are also available for string, brass, woodwind, percussion, voice, piano and guitar instruments.
The Community Music School's mission is to enrich lives and communities by offering high-quality, affordable music instruction to all people, and to provide performance opportunities that contribute to the cultural life of the communities it serves. This dual mission is based on the notion that music should play a central role in the life of any healthy community and that each individual has the capacity for music expression and enjoyment at some level.

The Macomb Municipal Band will perform their final concert of the season on Thursday, August 11th from 7:00 to 8:30pm, on the front lawn of Macomb City Hall. These concerts are free and open to the public. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets.

Sign up for Ann Thomas’s Painting Workshop, “Capturing Galena,” on August 12-13 from 9 am to 4 pm.
With your own portable ink pens, small watercolor set, and sketchpad, enjoy capturing the wonderful architecture of Galena, Illinois, with its charming downtown area and abundant historical buildings. Ann will share her techniques for laying down quick pen and ink line images, and then adding tone, texture, contrast, and vibrant color to create spontaneous-energy filled drawings.
Ann encourages students to bring the tools they already have and with which they are comfortable. This is a very portable class, and the media used should be quick drying and easy to carry.
The cost is $225 per person for two days, including a box lunch each day.
The class will originate at the Galena Center for the Arts located at 971 Gear Street in Galena, Illinois, and then move to downtown or residential areas to work outdoors.

Join us for a hootin’ good time learning about the owls that inhabit Argyle Lake State Park. Participants will learn about the owl’s many unique hunting adaptations and its diet by dissecting an owl pellet. We will use a recording of various owl calls to encourage the owls to call back to us. Meet at the park’s Prairieview shelter (2nd right) for this program. The Old Couch Music Fest returns to 3rd Street Saturday, August 13 for a FREE night of live music! Gates open at 5:30PM
What is the Old Couch Music Fest?The Old Couch Music Festival was created in 2017 to display local and regional Americana, folk, bluegrass, country, blues, and rock music. The name was inspired by an old couch in the back of the theater that just couldn’t be dumped because it was donated in someone’s memory. This old couch has come to serve as the primary fundraising event for the Capitol Theater.
We encourage patrons to bring their own old couch, recliner, or lawn chair and enjoy free live music outside on 3rd Street
This event is a family-friendly all ages event
We'll have cold beer, water, wine, and soda available
Coal Haus 337 will be serving pizza
Bands will rotate between the main outdoor stage at Valley & 3rd street & our marquee stage under the theater marquee
