Arrest Made in Burlington Arson

A Burlington woman has been arrested in connection with a New Year’s Day fire that resulted in multiple injuries.

Christine Marie Rice, 43, faces one count of 1st Degree Arson, which carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 25-years.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of an apartment fire in the 1100 block of Vine Street on Jan. 1, 2014.

What police and firefighters found were multiple people trapped inside the structure.

Rescue attempts were successful as 10 people escaped the building, which was completely destroyed in the blaze.

Four of the ten had to be transported to Great River Medical Center for treatment, along with one of the two firefighters who were injured at the scene.

An investigation by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments and the State Fire Marshall's Office revealed the fire was intentionally set with the aid of an accelerant.

Rice is being held in the Des Moines County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
