Arrest in Officer-Involved Shooting

A Burlington man has been arrested in connection with an officer-involved shooting at Catfish Bend Casino Wednesday night.

David Cross, 40, faces one county of felony assault on a peace officer, felony interference with official acts, and operating a vehicle without owner's consent, an aggravated misdeamenor.

Authorities say Cross stole a vehicle from the casino's parking garage.

An Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) agent, who responded to the scene, attempted to stop the vehicle which was driving at them.

A statement from the DCI says the agent "moved out of harm's way" and fired three shots at the stolen vehicle, adding that Cross eventually hit the agent's patrol car before speeding away.

The stolen vehicle was found shortly afterwards, but Cross was not taken into custody until early Thursday AM.  He was found in the back of a vehicle in the 100 block of Shields Street.

No injuries were reported, but the DCI agent has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Cross is being housed in the Des Moines County Jail.
