Benefit Dinner for WIU Police Officer Fighting Cancer

A benefit is in the works for an officer with the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety. Krystal Scott is the midst of a major battle against stage four colon cancer.

Deputy Sarah Worthington, who works alongside Scott at OPS, said Scott is never one to ask for assistance.

“As a single mother doing all of this on her own, she hasn’t stopped to ask for help, but with someone like this it just seems fitting, you know, facing one of the toughest challenges of her life,” said Worthington.

“She could use the help. So, we stepped up as a department and community to try to give back.”

The benefit, which will include a spaghetti dinner and silent auction, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Macomb American Legion.

Tickets will be available both at the WIU Office of Public Safety and at the door, and all proceeds will go to Krystal and her family.

Contact the WIU Office of Public Safety for more information about the event.
