CEO Pay in the Media World

The Shop Talk panelists discuss the compensation for top executives of major media companies.

David Carr of the New York Times reported seven of the top 20 highest paid chief executives in the country are media moguls.  Leslie Moonves of CBS received the biggest paycheck of the media CEOs (more than $60 million), and even the lowest paid of the group – Rupert Murdoch of News Corporation – did quite well with compensation topping $22 million.

In addition, Carr reported that median pay for the top 20 media executives increased 10% in 2012.

The panelists wonder how much money someone needs to be happy. They also wonder how many additional reporters and other workers could be hired if CEOs reduced their pay a bit.
