Coronavirus Death Reported in Des Moines County

The state of Iowa reported a person in Des Moines County died from the novel coronavirus. The state said the person was age 61 – 80.

It is the first COVID-19 death reported in Des Moines and Lee counties.  Overall, 17 confirmed cases of the virus are reported in Des Moines County and 8 in Lee County (the figure for Lee County was updated Tuesday morning, April 28).

Also in southeast Iowa, 267 cases are reported in Louisa County with 2 deaths, 32 cases are reported in Henry County with 1 death, and 8 cases are reported in Van Buren County.

In western Illinois, the state reported a spike in COVID-19 cases in Warren and Cass counties. The state said 50 cases are confirmed in Warren County and 25 in Cass County.

Smithfield Foods announced it is suspending operations at its pork processing plant in Monmouth after several workers there tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Smithfield said 1,700 people work at the facility. The company says they will be paid while the plant is closed.

  • Henderson County: 4
  • Fulton County: 3
  • Schuyler County: 1

In northeast Missouri, 6 coronavirus cases are reported in Lewis County with 1 death, 4 cases are reported in Scotland County, and 1 case is reported thus far in Clark County.
