Day Care Center Working to Bounce Back from Fire

The Wee Care Day Care Center in Macomb lost everything in a fire six weeks ago. Supporters are hoping it won't take long to recover from the disaster.

Director Tracy Bollinger and Board President Jean Wolf said Wee Care opened in 1972, making it the oldest day care center in Macomb. They said it helps fill a specific need in the community.

“We focus on families that need help financially,” Bollinger said. “We have a contract with the state to provide that so our target population is families that need some assistance.”

Wolf said two fundraisers are planned, including one this week.

“The first is July 31. Beginning at 4:00 that afternoon we’ll be setting up tables along South Randolph Street for people to drive by and drop off donations,” she said. The tables will be set up across the street from The Wine Sellers (TWS), where musician Bill Maakestad will ask for donations for Wee Care during his monthly Final Friday performance at TWS.

Wolf said planning is underway for another fundraiser in September.
