The October 10 primary narrowed the field of candidates seeking three open seats on the Burlington City Council from 15 to 6. Tri States Public Radio spoke prior to the primary with the top six finishers including Lynda Murray, who finished fifth.
Murray is a registered dietician who's also worked as a nutrition coach and written nutrition-themed newspaper columns.
Murray said she entered the race because she wants to give back to the community she calls home and to work to improve the image of the city. She said Burlington has a lot of great reasons for people to move here: friendly people, great weather, low commute times.
Murray said one of the biggest challenges facing the city is infrastructure, in particular the need to find a solution for Cascade Bridge, which has been closed to vehicle traffic for years. She said the city also needs a policy regarding the use of TIF-related incentives and she would like to see flashy attractions along the riverfront that will bring in people from the city and out of town.
Early voting is underway in Burlington ahead of the November 7 general election.
