Bob Morawitz is running for city council in Fort Madison's 2nd Ward

Two people are running for the Ward 2 seat on the Fort Madison City Council: Incumbent Brian Wright and challenger Bob Morawitz. Morawitz believes his willingness to listen to residents and his common sense approach make him the best person for the job.

Morawitz said he's considered running for a seat on the city council for years but always chose not to for a variety of reasons, instead serving on local boards and commissions. He said this time around, he chose to file his paperwork to join the city council.

Morawitz said the difference this time was several decisions made -- or not made -- by the city council, including what he described as a lack of support for the historic battlefield site near Dollar General, and moving ahead with the reconstruction of the 27th Street intersection near HyVee, something he felt was not necessary at this time.

Morawitz said some of his top priorities are to see the city do a better job of promoting tourism opportunities, such as Old Fort Madison in Riverview Park, and to maintain public safety and public infrastructure.

Early voting is underway in Fort Madison ahead of the November 7 general election.
