Election 2017 - SCC Board of Trustees - Lanny Hilliard

Two people are running to represent District 2 on the Southeastern Community College Board of Trustees. Tri States Public Radio spoke with both candidates about their campaigns and their plans if elected, including Lanny Hilliard.

Hilliard joined the SCC Board of Trustees in 1998. He said he wants to continue to serve to ensure the college keeps moving in the right direction.

Hilliard said a priority for him is to work to keep college affordable for students while also providing a high quality education. He said he’s pleased with the new facilities being built in West Burlington and Keokuk as he expects they will help draw students to the school.

Hilliard said one of the biggest challenges facing the college is finances. He said the college has had success raising money for buildings, so the key is to try to balance the budget for operations on a daily basis.

District 2 includes the residents of the Danville, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Wapello, and West Burlington School Districts along with some voters in Burlington and in rural Des Moines County.
