Hancock County State's Attorney Passes Away

Hancock County State's Attorney's Office
Jason Pohren

Jason Pohren was 39.  He became state's attorney in December, 2014.

A brief statement from the Hancock County Sheriff's Department said:

“Hancock County Coroner Kendall Beals reports the death of Jason W. Pohren, age 39, of Carthage. Preliminary reports indicate death was due to (heart attack) natural causes. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

Pohren grew up in Keokuk.  He received a Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University, and graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Law.

Pohren ran for state’s attorney after the previous state’s attorney, Jim Drozdz, died in a traffic crash in Georgia in late 2013 while driving a truck for Dot Foods.  Pohren served out a two-year unexpired term before being re-elected in 2016.
