The McDonough County CEO program this week held its first-ever in-person trade show. The program canceled last year's show because of the pandemic.
During the trade show, CEO students showcased the businesses they created while in the program.
“They had the skills to make lists and figure out what they [the student] liked, what they were good at, what they felt was a need for in our community,” said Christi Steelman, Class Facilitator. “They were able to come up with business ideas that would work even in a pandemic.”
Those ideas include:
- Jade Laverdiere, Macomb senior - “Project Organized, a home organizing service”
- Bryce Lester, Macomb senior - “Slayer Decks, customizing skateboard decks for you!”
- Laine Torrance, Macomb senior, - “Sparkle Detailing, car detailing brought to the comfort of your home!”
- Devin Suggitt, Bushnell-Prairie City junior, - “Devin’s Dogs, here for all your dog needs”
- Grace Murphy, Macomb senior, - “The Marketing Buzz, publicizing the buzz of your business”
During the school year, students learned about the many avenues of the business world. Bushnell Prairie-City junior, Devin Suggitt, said building a business plan was crucial for class success, but CEO also helped him build on personal skills.
“Don’t be afraid to reach out for help,” Suggitt said. “For a while I was very prideful and hated asking for help, but this program has made me realize that there are people there to help with whatever I need.”
Students presented their business at the Spoon River College Community Outreach Center in Macomb.
Next year’s class has already been selected and will undergo the same process.
