New FM Main Street Director

The new head of Fort Madison’s Main Street program says 2013 will be a busy year for her and the organization.

Amy Hull says she moved to Fort Madison about 2 ½ years ago.  She took a job at the Fort Madison Public Library.

She says she was familiar with the city, having grown up in Burlington, but her new job has her trying to learn as much as possible.

Hull says her focus, during her first few weeks on the job, has been the downtown district.

“We have a lot of great businesses down here and great business owners who I am getting to know,” says Hull.  “It has been fun talking to them and getting promotion ideas and just getting people downtown to appreciate this great historic district.”

Hull says she applied for the job to make more of a difference in Fort Madison.

When I get excited about something, I like to get other people excited about it

Hull says most business owners in the downtown district want to see better communication between themselves and the organization as well as a better marketing of what is available.

“I know that a lot of times, it is convenient to one-stop shop,” says Hull, “but what we are trying to let people know is that they are getting a high quality product… and helping the community by spending local.”

Hull says Fort Madison Main Street’s annual events do a good job of getting people to think downtown, but she says she will spend time over the next few months trying to come up with weekly or monthly promotions to do the same.

Hull replaced Mary Ottoson as Director.
