No Vaccination Incentive for Macomb City Employees

Rich Egger

The city administration had proposed offering a financial incentive for city workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19. But this week it dropped the plan.

City Administrator Scott Coker said it now appears the proposed $300 incentive won’t sway those who have declined to get vaccinated.

“I think some of them have medical reasons (for why) they can’t get vaccinated. I think some just are opposed to it for whatever reason,” he said.

The city has around 110 employees. Coker said 70% of them are already vaccinated.

He said the city will continue to educate its workforce and the community about the vaccine and why everyone should get inoculated. He does not expect the city to require a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.

“I’m not hearing of that being required anywhere else. If the society changes or other places change, we would come back to discuss that,” he said.
