Lee County Board Chairman Don Hunold is not seeking re-election this fall in District Three. Two men are vying to replace him, including Democrat Rich Harlow of Montrose.
About
Rich Harlow said he moved to Lee County in 1967 and called it home ever since. He said he worked in radio for years in Keokuk and in Fort Madison and he worked for the state of Iowa in Workforce Development. Harlow said he’s also been involved in boards and commissions throughout the county including the Lee County Conservation Board and the Fort Madison Parks Board.
Why Running
Harlow said his number one reason for running is to help people.
“I’ve always tried to help people,” said Harlow. “I think I have demonstrated that by helping people on the radio, helping people with jobs, and helping employers. In a nutshell, my slogan is ‘I care about you and Lee County and I really, really do.’ I have the time to do it and you get out of life what you put in it… so it’s better to wear out than rust out.”
Top Priorities
Harlow said his top priories if elected include economic development, road maintenance and bringing the issues of Lee County residents before the county board. He said he’s already been doing that by raising the issue of a run-down county-owned shed in Argyle that has been neglected for years.
Opponent
Jim Steffen is the Republican Party nominee for the District 3 seat on the Lee County board of Supervisors. District 3 includes western Fort Madison and five townships in west-central Lee County.
