Social Media Fabrications about Kenosha Shooting

Poynter did some fact checking on the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Poynter found that several widely shared posts on social media make inaccurate, misleading, or unproven claims about Blake, his interaction with police, and the events that followed.

The Shop Talk panelists said there seems to be a general lack of understanding by the public about what sources should be trusted.  They said it is a challenge to counter the problem when media literacy is appears to be so low.

The panelists also believe Americans are paying the price for the staffing cuts made through the years in newsrooms across the nation.
