Student Reporter Chris Lovingood was one of seven WIU Department of Broadcasting students to bring home an award from the recent National Broadcasting Society's National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition.

Chris was awarded the grand prize in the Audio Feature Segment category, for his story "Balloon Rally in Macomb," a feature he produced as part of his work at Tri States Public Radio. You can find a link to that story below.

The awards were handed out March 15th at the 51st annual competition, held in Burbank, CA.

This year’s grand prize winners from WIU also include:
• Audio PSA "WIU Dance Marathon PSA" by Jay Jacobs, junior, Harvard, IL
• Audio Commercial "Chicks Commercial" by Anthony Jones, junior, Poplar Grove, IL
• Video Newscast "NEWS3 November 19, 2013" by Chris Lovingood, Jack Pluta (senior, Laurium, MI), Jay Jacobs and Nico Haeflinger (senior, Marengo, IL)

The WIU produced “NEWS3 Live at 4” also won a grand prize for best video newscast and an additional nomination in the same category. NEWS3 is a student-produced newscast that airs live twice a week every semester.

WIU News Coordinator Jasmine Crighton said the winning episode covered the tornado devastation that happened in Washington, IL, in November 2013.
