What Happens to the Business Competition Runners-Up?

Jul 24, 2018

Representatives from eight proposed businesses pitched their plans during the Downtown Macomb Retail Business Competition. Only one winner was chosen, but some of the other business plans could still come to fruition.

Downtown Development Director Kristin Terry said the city is prepared to help the runners-up, which included bakeries, a pottery and craft studio, and a proposal to re-open the Macomb Dining Company.

“We told them from the beginning, even if they didn’t win, we’re here for anything they need for support. And also there are incentives out there like the façade grant program or if they need a downtown revolving loan.  We can help them,” said Terry.

“I hope that they still go with their dream. I hope they know that it still can be viable here in Macomb.”

And Terry pointed out one of the proposed businesses is already set to open.

Lakeview Medical and Psychiatric Healthcare will be located in the Jackson Street Market complex on West Jackson Street.  It is scheduled to host an open house on Wednesday, August 15, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Forgottonia Brewing won the business competition. It has a year to open its doors in order to collect the $3,500 cash offered as part of the contest’s $28,000 in cash and prizes.
