2018 Election

In his first major political speech since leaving office, former President Barack Obama took aim at the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress — blaming them for inciting division and stoking fears in the country.

Obama delivered the address at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, where he also accepted the Paul H. Douglas Award for Ethics in Government from the Institute of Government and Public Affairs.

Downstate Senator Sam McCann filed petition signatures on Monday to get on the fall ballot. Back in April he announced a run for governor for the newly created Conservative Party. 

The Libertarian Party filed a slate of statewide candidates on Monday, turning in more than 47,000 signatures to the Illinois State Board of Elections. That’s nearly double the required 25,000.

Results from contested races in Tuesday's Municipal Elections in Clark and Lewis Counties.

Clark County Ambulance District - District #1 – 3 year term (Choose 1)

  • Steven Howell – 85%
  • Keane Morrison – 15%

Clark County Ambulance District - District #4 – 3 year term (Choose 1)

  • Gary Whitaker – 45%
  • Connie Handyside – 55%

Clark County Nursing Home District - District #2 – 3 year term (Choose 1)

State Representative Norine Hammond of Macomb turned back a challenge in the Republican primary, and the number two in command at the McDonough County Sheriff's Department will get a chance to run the office.

Monday was an important date on the way to the 2018 elections. It was the beginning of the period when Illinois candidates have to file petitions with, in some cases, thousands of signatures needed to get on the ballot.
