Knox County announced the formation of a Violent Crime Task Force less than a week ago, and the group is already yielding results.

Knox County is forming a task force to address a drastic uptick in violent crimes this year.

The  Illinois Legislative Black Caucus succeeded earlier this month in ushering in legislation that would, among other things, end cash bail. If signed by Governor Pritzker, Illinois would be the first state to completely end the use of money bonds. 

Ending cash bail doesn't lead to an increase in crime, according to a new report from researchers at Loyola University Chicago. 

The head of the Iowa Department of Corrections briefed Gov. Reynolds today on an increase in violent crime in the state that he called shocking.  

Statistics from a national survey show that from 2006 through 2016, Iowa was one of only two states in the country where the incidence increased for all four categories of violent crime, including homicide, robbery, rape, and aggravated assault.  

At the same time, the recidivism rate is on the rise for perpetrators of violent crime. 

Could a campaign emphasis on "law and order" derail the emerging bipartisan consensus on crime and punishment?

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL, said recent racial killings underscore the need for conversations about race relations and law enforcement, but there are also systemic issues that need more specifically addressed.
