Judge Denies Request from Keokuk Murder Suspect

A southeast Iowa judge this week rejected a motion to suppress statements made by a Keokuk man accused of First Degree Murder. The ruling means that statements made by Adam McCain to investigators and to a family member can be introduced in his criminal trial next month.

The Iowa Attorney General's Office is recommending no criminal charges be filed against the law enforcement officers involved in a fatal shooting of Caleb Peterson, 20, of Burlington on September 11.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has released the names of the law enforcement officers involved in the fatal shooting of a southeast Iowa man last week.

One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Burlington early Wednesday morning.


The head of the Iowa Freedom of Information Council believes a recent decision by the Iowa Public Information Board (IPIB) could have a lasting effect on transparency across the state.


The Burlington Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation kept confidential numerous documents related to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in January 2015. An administrative law judge said that action violated Iowa's Open Records Law.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has identified the body found along a gravel road south of West Point, Iowa Sunday morning as Sadie Alvarado, 20, of Muscatine, Iowa. The agency announced Monday that criminal charges have also been filed in connection with her death.

Ben Trane sat inside the 2nd floor courtroom of the south Lee County Courthouse, Monday morning, wearing a brown Lee County Jail jumpsuit and shackles. He was there to request the court release him from police custody while his criminal case proceeds.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) reported Wednesday that the suspect in the robbery of a Fort Madison bank was shot and killed by officers as he tried to escape.

It will be up to a judge to decide whether government and law enforcement agencies in Des Moines County violated Iowa’s open records law during an investigation into the shooting death of a Burlington woman last year.

The Burlington Police Department is saying little about the death of a teenager whose body was discovered late Wednesday night.  Kedarie Johnson, 16, was a student at Burlington High School.

There are still many more questions than answers regarding the investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at Midwest Academy, a southeast Iowa boarding school for teens. The path to finding some of those answers appears to be the legal system as the last week has been filled with court filings and hearings regarding the school.

Pitman Murder Trial : Day 3

The third day of the murder trial of Keokuk resident Adam Pitman wrapped up early due to scheduling conflicts.

Judge Cynthia Danielson is presiding over the case at the South Lee County Courthouse in Keokuk.

Pitman is accused of killing his mother, Rosa Pitman, in her home in the early morning hours of August 30, 2011.  He allegedly confessed to the crime after being pulled over for a traffic violation several hours later.

1st Degree murder carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
