Police arrested a man who investigators said intentionally set a house fire that killed a woman on Sunday, February 14.

One person is dead after a fire in Galesburg. The city said the house "...had been placarded as unfit for habitation."

Firefighters had to deal with freezing rain and frozen ground while battling the blaze that broke out at Keokuk City Hall on Tuesday night. And while the fire took a heavy toll on the two-story brick building at 415 Blondeau Street, not everything was lost. 

The Tama Building in downtown Burlington is considered a total loss following a fire that started late Saturday night. The building was in the final stages of a multi-million dollar restoration project that included upper-story housing and ground level commercial space.

The Burlington Fire Department is still investigating a fatal house fire that occurred in the 1200 block of S. 4th Street early Tuesday morning. The department said it will release the name of the victim upon notification of next of kin and the completion of an autopsy.

The fire department is looking into the cause of a fire at 58 S. Cherry St.  The department said it’s not yet known whether the building will be declared a total loss.
