As summer comes to a close, Illinois residents are getting closer to deer hunting season and a new law recently signed by Gov. Bruce Rauner is intended to improve safety by adding a new color to hunters' wardrobes.

Not so long ago, prior to 1999, Illinois considered bobcats a threatened species. Come winter, hunters will be able to harvest the cats.

IL Deer Harvest Largely Unaffected by Drought

One thing the ongoing drought did not seem to affect was the number of deer in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources said hunters killed nearly 181-thousand deer, only one thousand less than one year ago.
