With three weeks to go until Election Day, more than 526,000 Illinois voters have already cast their ballots, according to data from the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Despite recent sorting machine removals in Peoria and elsewhere, U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Moline, said she's confident the Post Office can handle large numbers of mail-in ballots in November.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a law Wednesday aimed at bringing more young people into the civic conversation.

Voter turnout was quite light across western Illinois.  Schuyler County saw about 23% of its registered voters head to the polls - and that was the highest total in the region.  Elsewhere, the turnout was 17% in Henderson County, 12.5% in Fulton County, 11.5% in Knox County (excluding the city of Galesburg), 11% in McDonough County, 9% in Warren County, and nearly 8% in Galesburg.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin was in Springfield today (WED), casting his ballot in the 2018 Election. He says he's encouraged by early voting tallies in Illinois so far, and that immigration is now among the chief issues thanks to President Trump.

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is traveling the state by bus in the final days before the mid-term election as he tries to rally support for his re-election campaign. The Republican used a brief stop in Quincy Thursday morning to tout his plans for the next four years and to rail against his opponent, Democrat J.B. Pritzker.

Two competitive judicial races for circuit court are on the ballot in Champaign County this year, which doesn’t happen often. Illinois elects its circuit judges to six-year terms, after which they run unopposed to be retained and are rarely unseated.

Julia Albarracin said she came to the United States in 1999 to attend graduate school at the University of Florida.  She now teaches political science at Western Illinois University.  Albarracin is also now an American citizen after being sworn in a few months ago, and she used her newfound status to cast her first vote in a U.S. election.

A Few McDonough County Voters Denied Ballots

About a half dozen McDonough County residents were not allowed to vote in the Illinois primary in March. McDonough County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes blamed the mistake on human error.

Absentee Voting? Here Are The Details

Applications for absentee voting begin today. According to the Illinois State Board of Elections, the first day for mailing-in absentee votes for the fall election is September 25th. Absentee voting forms must be postmarked by midnight on November 3, 2014.
