Canton man accused of shooting livestock near Bardolph

A case of road rage in Macomb led to the arrest of a Canton man on weapons and animal cruelty charges.

Oliver Hoffman, 18, is accused of brandishing a weapon during a traffic altercation in the 300 block of East Jackson Street on Tuesday evening, Oct. 29.

Several firearms were found in his pickup truck.

A subsequent investigation by the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department connected Hoffman to the shooting of four bulls east of Bardolph.

Two of the animals died.

Hoffman admitted to shooting the livestock several hours before the road rage incident, according to the sheriff’s department.

Sandburg celebrates opening of Science & Technology Center

The most impactful project on Sandburg’s Galesburg campus since its primary construction in 1969 is now complete.

The $27 million, 46,733-square-foot Science & Technology Center opened in August. This week, the college held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting for it.

Work on the two-story building began in early 2023. It houses classrooms, laboratories, offices, and clinical areas for Sandburg’s health professions, natural sciences, nursing, and dental hygiene programs. It also includes a business center and wellness suite for student use, allowing specialized spaces for students to focus on their academic success and mental health.

The completion of the new building is the first step in an updated campus master plan. Sandburg is also currently renovating its student center and plans to build an athletic and conference center.
