Macomb Will Apply for Bike Path Money

Macomb, IL – There are no bike paths in Macomb, but the city hopes it can soon change that. Aldermen have agreed to apply for state money to help build a quarter-mile path from East Wheeler Street to Home Street, which is near the east side shopping district. The estimated cost is more than $100,000. The state would pay 80%. City Administrator Mike Hays says it's a small project, so the city should be able to afford it. Macomb expects to find out this fall or winter whether it will get the money. If it does, the 10-foot wide asphalt path would be built next year.
