Art Exhibit Celebrates Chinese New Year

Macomb, IL – A new exhibit in Macomb shows off the work of an award-winning artist from China. Chuangao Yu is in Macomb for several months to visit his daughter Jing Yu, who works at WIU. They wanted to display some of his work in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations, which began over the weekend. Their search took them to The Wine Sellers on the courthouse square, which is now showing a number of his pieces through the end of February. Chuangao Yu uses a brush pen on special rice paper to create images in a traditional Chinese style. His work has won awards at exhibits in his homeland. In the photo, you can see a painting of a Chinese warrior. The artist says although the warrior looks threatening, he's actually a force for good because he scares off evil spirits.
