Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen are being asked to consider rate hikes for water and sewer fees and for solid waste disposal. City Administrator Mike Hays says the budget could be balanced without increasing the fees, but the city would then spend down its reserves. Hays is recommending a arte increase of 3.5% to 4% for water and sewer fees. He's not yet decided on a proposed hike for garbage. Aldermen talked about the issue Monday night as part of their ongoing budget discussions. The city's new spending plan goes into effect May 1.
