Lee County Mental Health Center Progressing Slowly

Fort Madison, IA – An effort to develop a drop-in center for certain Lee County residents is slowly moving forward. The Board of Supervisors has voted to begin contract talks with Burlington-based Hope Haven Area Development Center over a proposed mental health community outreach center. Chairman George Morgan says this step does not guarentee the facility will become a reality. He still has concerns about locating the center in Fort Madison. Morgan also says an contract must clearly establish who can be held liable for actions involving the center. The projected monthly cost of operating the facility is about $2600. That is up about 3% from the original estimate because Hope Haven sent its first proposal over one year ago.
