Keokuk Teacher Dies

Keokuk, IA – A Keokuk school teacher, who was under investigation by local law enforcement agencies, has died following a car crash last week. The Keokuk School District says the recent dealth of Scott Thompson, 30, has "shocked and upset us all." Thompson had served as high school band director. He died Saturday after being involved in a one-vehicle accident, Thursday evening. A news release from the school district confirms Thompson was under investigation by the Keokuk Police Department. He had been charged with 2 felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor by a school employee. Court documents show those charges have now been dropped due to Thompson's death. The Keokuk school board formally accepted Thompson's resignation at its meeting 2 weeks ago. Superintendent Jane Babcock says Thompson offered his resignation prior to any investigation so he could pursue other job opportunities.
