Keokuk, IA – Lee County is now part of Iowa's first port authority. The Lee County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to join Fort Madison and Keokuk as part of the Southeast Iowa Regional Economic and Port Authority. Board Chairman George Morgan and Lee County Economic Development Director, Lowell Junkins, will serve on the authority's board of directors, which has already had its first meeting. The newly formed panel named Junkins as Chairman, Keokuk Mayor Dave Gudgel as Vice Chairman, and Fort Madison Mayor Steve Ireland as Secretary. Junkins says the office holders will serve on an interim basis until the authority's general by-laws are finished, which he hopes will be within the next few weeks.
