Chandler Park Back In The Spotlight

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen are once again interested in making improvements to Chandler Park. The park sits at the intersection of the two highways running through the city, which makes it a highly visible and important park. Its electrical system needs an upgrade, and it appears the best place to run the new wires is under the sidewalks, which are made of brick. That creates a dilemma because cost estimates have shown the price of new sidewalks rises dramatically if the bricks are put back in. It would be cheaper to use stamped concrete or some other option, but some residents contend the bricks give the park a unique charm. A committee originally formed in the fall of 2004 will be brought back together to gather public input and help the city council decide what course of action to take. Aldermen talked about Chandler Park during their May 30 meeting. You can listen to their discussion by clicking on the audio button above.
